We thought the most exciting information was the announcement by Marv Tuttle that the FPA is partnering with Ameriprise to bring back the university Financial Planning Challenge. This will be held this year in Denver in conjunction with the FPA Convention in October. Only the top eight university groups will be selected to present their cases. The FPA hopes the 3,500 planners will be in attendance to watch this grand finale. What an opportunity for these young and budding stars! It is also an excellent opportunity for anyone hiring young financial planners.
Also at this years Convention there will be Financial Planning Days. FPA is targeting underserved young adults to introduce them to financial planning. The Financial Planning Days is offered through the Denver FPA chapter. Besides being offered in conjunction with the convention, 30 chapters around the country will be offering this program in conjunction with city governments. The FPA has partnered with the Organization of City Mayors, and the CFP Board to offer pro bono financial planning. No advertising will be permitted. All planners must attend the training boot camp either at the convention or at the chapter to participate in the Planning Days. The training is approved for 1 hour of CE. For more information about this project, go to www.financialplanningdays.org which will be launched in mid-August.
Dr. Potts reported on the activities of the Financial Planning Coalition, of which the FPA is a member. The group has made good progress with communication on Capitol Hill, but there is always more to be done.
Marv Tuttle reported that the association is on sound financial ground. They have been able to cut expenses and matched expenses to budget. They are returning $200,000 to reserves. They look forward to holding more Virtual Town Hall Meetings to keep all members apprised of activities.
